Wednesday 4th January 2006

There have been so many ghastly attacks and murders, whether terrorist inspired or for whatever other reason.  Just how can one forgive those who do such awful deeds to innocent people?   It must be so difficult, yet we do hear of some people saying 'I forgive'.    Could I ever live up to this ideal?

This led me to think more about forgiveness and thus came about I forgive..but how?

Christmas Day 2005

  • Mood:

Whew!  what a busy time!

We have just returned from our daughter's home after having spent the day with Theresa, our son-in-law Howard and our grandson Marshall.  Howard's dad Norman was also present.  We had a lovely dinner and afterwards played Disney trivial pursuit, in which Marshall Bob and I were pitted against Theresa, Norman and Howard.  Our team won because Marshall is all knowledgeable about the Disney  Films.

Indeed this has been a busy week with last minute preparations for Christmas.  On Thursday 22nd we went to Rochester to meet with our son Mark, our daughter-in-law Noleen and Jacob and Amelia our grandchildren.   Amelia is my height now, and such a beautiful girl.  Jacob is almost 6 ft and handsome, if he can be seen under the hair.    We had a lovely meal and shared stories and all too soon it was tiime to go home.  We will see them again next week as Jacob is playing with his group..The Throwoffs.   I am looking forward to hearing him play, though I have been warned earplugs may be advisable!

Saturday night Christmas Eve, Theresa, Marshall Norman and myself went to the family Mass at St Edmnd's in Beckenham.  It was so crowded there was barely room to move and we had to stay at the back, barely hearing anything of the service. though the microphone allowed some sound through.  It was less than fulfilling, though on the good side, it was wonderful to see so many people in Church.  The newsletter said 2,000 people go to St Edmunds at Christmas...it almost seemed if there were that many here that night!

In this day and age when so many people seem to forget about God, it was encouraging to see so many present.   God has been very good to us.  This is the 44th Christmas since Bob and I met and we have had many blessings, son, daughter, grandchildren, daughter-in-law,son-in-law to mention but a few.  Yes we have had some sadness, but with Jesus beside us we have come through.

2006 will dawn soon and more newsletters to write and more poems to compose.   Suggestions always welcome.    My latest is on forgiveness.. but how can we forgive vicious crimes with such awful results.  But we know we must.   I will post this poem next week.  Thank you for sparing the time to read this.  God bless all and love from Cecilia.

Hello folks!

Time to add a little.  I have been busy doing the Church newsletter, and my lovley son Mark has added some more poems for me.  I don't think he realises how many there are in my files!   Thank you Mark.   My latest poem was about Remembrance and the ultimate sacrifices of so many lives in wars.  Peace begins at home and in the heart.   There is sadness at the moment as two policewomen have been shot, one fatally.      How can anyone think they have the right to take another's life or health away.  We need as Christians to somehow touch the hearts and minds of those who care nothing about others or God.  "Pray them out," a friend once said to me.  I used to be a District Nurse and many elderly people said they felt they were useless because they could not do anything for anyone else.  I said they could pray!    We all need prayers, myself included.  Prayers for others work better than prayers for oneself.  I derive a great deal of support from the thought that others pray for me.  ( At least they said they did!)   On a happier note, Christmas looms ahead.   I have to write a poem for my Chrsitmas message to friends and family.  (Who does she think she is..the Queen?)  Naaah..... a mere mortal!  God bless all.  Cecilia.

Hi again,  its been all go this week!    I feel so excited with my 'umble' poems on the web!  Thank you to my lovely son Mark!  Now all we need is someone to read them!  There will be more entries soon.  You have been warned!        Having rhymed the Gospel of the Sunday, I then try and pen a poem for the newsletter.   I get my ideas from happenings within the family circle or friends, or something suddenly comes into my head.   I sign my initials Cjs, as a half-hearted attempt on some anonymity.                   Recently Mark told me a lovely story about a farmer and how he came to believe in Jesus.                    I found myself writing, you've guessed it, a poem!   So to beilieve.   Another time an argument observed or a comment sets me going.  A train crash, the dreadful bombings in New York, London and elsewhere.  The Tsunami, etc.  Sibling rivalry, marriage, pride, the prodigal son; I must have written 200 or more by now.    If you wish to comment, give me a subject and I will write a poem.   I also compose fun poems for weddings, birthdays, special occasions.    I belong to a bowls club and we have a wooden spoon award for the gaffes people make.  Though I deserve the spoon more than anyone, I escape because I am the poem writer! Ha Ha!  God bless all.   Cecilia.

Today is the first day I have used the website. It is a litleoverwhelming at present.

Ever since November 1997 I have been writing poems.  I was a Macmillan Nurse Specialist visiting both in the community and hospital in South East London.  I had often penned the odd poetical note, but nothing serious.   My role was a difficult one and it was extremely stressful, but I received many blessings from my work and I did feel fulfilled.

In that November my daughter's mother-in-law was dying, and one night after visiting I felt so moved that I suddenly had the compulsion to write a poem in tribute to her.   A gracious lady who, though so very ill, had thanked me for visiting her!     I sat down in front of the new computer my husband had bought me and stared at the screen.  But not for long!  The fingers flew and the words tumbled over the page.   When I had finished I was so surprised.  Had I really written that?    I felt in awe of it all.

From that time the poems took over.  I started to write the newsletter for my Church and it seemed logical that I also write poems for that publication.   I decided to turn the Gospel of the Sunday into rhyme with a few lines of comments added at the end.   From that my poems developed into my view of life and its problems today, and how if we lived up to the Christian message of Jesus, He would see us through all aspects of our lives.    I had always said a little prayer before a difficult conversation in my work and about how I should respond to certain situations.   This had helped me through and so the poems evolved.   Life always has its pulls and I too need to listen to the message in my poems.

Cecilia
